Well the first repair/upgrade is done on the Tomos. It was an easy and free one!

As you can see here the factory handle bars were badly bent.

Kinja'd!!!

Thankfully if there’s one thing I do have it’s a bunch of spare bike parts. So I grabbed some 2” rise BMX style bars that came off a bike I got for free a few years ago. A friend had left it behind when he moved to New York. I figured I’d like the look, and being a tal guy with long arms I figure a longer reach would be nice. (Please ignore the floppy blinker.)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

If I don’t like them, I have some standerd 6 or 7inch rise  BMX bars I’ll slap on.

Next thing on the list is he most important. Replacing the throttle. The return spring in there is totally warn so it doesn’t return. I’m hoping I can just buy the spring, but I haven’t been able to find it yet. Then I’ll need to figure out why the rear brake sticks and fix that. Then on to the floppy blinkers. I’ll probably go for some el cheapo aftermarket ones.

I like the look of the bars on there.

Don’t make too rash a decision on the blinkers. For small money you can do really well with some time spent shopping. I’m guessing you are going to need some confusers and rejiggalotors to use basically anything?

Is that a horn beneath the headlight. This raises my second concern about making mechanical job one figuring out what the largest size battery you can squeeze in there is.  More power and more bright head/tail lights are worth the trouble.

Auto parts stores often sell little containers of variously sized carburetor springs

It’s not the spring on the carb end that is warn. It’s the one inside the actual throttle on the handle bar.

That ius less to do with the battery and more to do with the stator and the rectifier.

This thing has a spring inside the throttle assembly? Never seen a system like that , everything I’ve ever worked on has been driven by a spring in the carb. I’d start by making sure there are no kinks, tight bends, or crushed parts of the throttle cable, and then lube it up real good like.

oof yeah that’s a bit less of a universal part

Until you try restarting it.

Sorry, I let it go the first time but I can’t take it!

warn is not the same as   worn !

That will be all. Again my apologies.

Definitely a typo I meant worn. Lol. At least I caught that I had typed raise instead of rise both times.

your alternator should be slightly more output then your system anyways. so thats your biggest draw back when you want to add electrical stuff

Maybe get some cheap LED turn signals from Amazon? Would be easier on the bike’ s power system too as LEDs draw less current/amps than halogen bulbs would?

This sort of thing?

And LED bulb conversion would help a bit perhaps? They use less current/amps than halogen bulbs?

How much custom work have you done on older machines? Stuffing the biggest possible battery* in is really quite common. You might be applying science where under engineered solutions exist.

In any case I’m not arguing against a line of reasonable thought so much as suggesting a reasonable avenue to explore when he really digs in.

*Bigger meaning laughably so.  It is usually worth the trouble though.

I’ve tinkered enough. Though, usually we do LED lighting to reduce the load as much as possible.
